Types of Liposuction:

Traditional Liposuction

This type of liposuction is more suitable for people who need to remove larger volumes of fat and is applied to wider areas of unwanted fat.

The traditional liposuction procedure is performed in an operating room under general anesthesia and can take between one and three hours, depending on the amount of fat to be removed.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is the most common type of liposuction.

The tumescent liposuction technique is performed under local anesthesia to remove fairly large amounts of fat.

In this technique, the area to be treated is injected with a large volume of medicated solution containing lidocaine and epinephrine, a local anesthetic, to numb the area for the surgical procedure and also to generate vasoconstriction, i.e., constrict blood vessels to prevent bleeding.

Tumescent liposuction is a type of liposuction that takes longer than other types of liposuction.

Advantages of Tumescent Liposuction:

Postoperative discomfort for the patient is reduced.

It can be performed under local anesthesia.

By eliminating the need for general anesthesia, there is no need to use postoperative narcotics or intravenous sedatives.

It prevents blood loss, unlike liposuction performed under general anesthesia.

Super-Wet Technique

Super-wet liposuction is similar to tumescent liposuction, and as in that technique, a solution is injected into the treated area.

The super-wet technique requires injecting less than half the volume of solution used in the tumescent technique, where the amount of injected fluid is three times the amount of fat in the treated area.

The cost of this type of liposuction may be slightly higher but is worth it for the process.

The super-wet liposuction procedure is completed in relatively less time and may require general anesthesia or some sedative medications to induce a state of drowsiness or sedation.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is a type of liposuction that detaches fat cells from the body using new ultrasound technology. A handheld device is used to emit ultrasonic energy to break down fat cells.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction technology has provided many people with a type of liposuction offering certain advantages:

Patients do not have to undergo long and heavy procedures.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction allows for easy removal of fat cells in areas such as the back and upper abdomen.

This type of liposuction is primarily recommended for male patients and when the fat to be removed covers a wide area.

Micro Lipo or Micro-Liposuction

Micro-Lipo is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional or surgical liposuction.

This type of liposuction is ideal for removing fat from small areas of the body such as the neck, chin, or arms.

The procedure involves the use of small-caliber cannulas to remove fat that is difficult to eliminate by other means and is performed under local anesthesia.

Micro-Lipo results are generally very long-lasting, while also achieving a positive change in the shape of the treated area.

Recovery time is quick, as patients can return to their daily routine within a day.

Vaser Liposuction

Vaser is a technological term meaning “amplification of sound energy vibration in resonance”; it is a specialized form of ultrasound technology to detach unwanted fat.

After fat cells are broken down, the excess fat is removed through suction.

Vaser liposuction works by removing stubborn fat from areas such as the arms, hips, chin, and knees.

This type of liposuction can be performed under local or general anesthesia, using ultrasonic frequency technology that helps dislodge fat deposits.

The fatty area is treated with a saline solution before being loosened and then removed with a suction cannula.

Vaser lipo results start to appear around three weeks after the procedure, but improvement continues, reaching the best results over the following six months.

Vaser liposuction has the advantage of being a minimally invasive fat removal procedure.

Although very similar to the Smart Lipo procedure, in Vaser liposuction, electronic probes are used to loosen fat tissue along with the injected fluid, which is gently suctioned.

Smart Lipo or Laser Liposuction

Smart Lipo, or Laser Liposuction, is a laser treatment performed under local anesthesia.

During the Smart Lipo procedure, a small 1 mm cannula containing an optical fiber is inserted into the area to be treated.

This optical fiber melts the fat cells, which are then suctioned without damaging the surrounding tissue. The skin tightens around the treated area, preventing sagging that can occur with traditional liposuction.

Although Smart Lipo is primarily indicated for small, localized fat deposits, it is possible to remove a significant amount of fat through the procedure and, in some cases, it can be combined with traditional liposuction.
